A final Christmas Message...

Our Oakwood Christmas always ends with the Christmas Service...

A reminder of the Christmas message for everyone - the school community in the hall in good voice and celebrating together.

The Reverend Chris Knights from Lordshill Church led us in worship.

Have a lovely time.

Christmas Dinner

A big thank you to Mrs Lacey and her amazing team in the kitchen who cooked over 400 Christmas dinners on Thursday!

We had a great time and it tasted delicious!

Thanks to the OSA for the crackers!

Our Christmas Performances

Although Year R completed their Christmas nativity last week, everyone else has still been hard at work this week!

The children in Years 1-6 performed for their parents and friends - here's how they did!

Thanks to parents and friends who raised £1300 for the Southampton Hospital Children's Wards.

Merry Christmas!

Y6 Maths Competition Winners

In Y6 we have been working very hard in our maths sets. Mr Ackland's Maths Set have recently been using the website Sumdog (which all our Y6 children have an account for - managed by the school).

They recently won a Southampton wide competition! Each pupil has 1000 questions on a range of maths topics and varying in difficultly to attempt. The class with the highest average number of correct answers wins!

As winners they won a free upgrade for our accounts! This means we now have full access to all maths learning games!

Year 1 Angels

Year 1 have been learning all about the important role of angels in the Christmas Story.

We began the topic by imagining what an angel would be like. Without discussing our ideas we created an image of our angel and then wrote some descriptive sentences. At the end of the session we compared our ideas and found out that they were all quite different.

After this we read the Christmas Story and talked about the role of angels. We then had a go at acting out some of the scenes which included angels.

To finish our angel RE topic we made a Christmas angel decoration.

Practical Maths in Year 1

This term the children in Year 1 have worked practically in their maths lessons when working with shape, measure and money.

Take a look at some of the activities they have done.

Year R - A Magical Nativity

Our Year R children presented a magical nativity to their parents, grandparents and friends.

It was their first time on the stage at Oakwood and they really did themselves proud.

We think it's amazing that a 2000 year-old story is still just as important today as it was all those years ago.

Thank you for getting us in the Christmassy mood, Year R!

OSA Christmas Fair

We would like to say a huge Thank You to everyone who supported the OSA Christmas Fair this year!

All the hard work on behalf of the OSA Committee and the helpers (including our wonderful pupil helpers) was rewarded by great attendance and everyone having lots of fun.

It really got everyone into the Christmas spirit - and everyone was impressed by our GIANT SANTA!

The grand total raised was just over £4000! Thank you!

Thanks especially to Mrs Handley-Garland (Chair of the OSA), Mr Chafe (our treasurer) and Mr Barrett (who helped make sure the school was back up and running the next morning!)

Y4 at Lordshill Church

Year 4 had a wonderful morning this morning visiting Lordshill Church. Chris and Angie talked to the children about the church and it's role in the community. Chris talked to year 4 about Mary and what role she played in Jesus's life. This linked to our current RE topic. The children also remembered with Chris the Christmas story and how important it is to Christians at Christmas. Thankyou to Lordshill Church for a fantastic morning! he

Year 2 - Light as a Symbol

Year 2 had some visitors in for the day. We learned about light as a symbol and made some stained glass windows and candles!

Key stage 1 Personal Best day

For the last time this year the children enjoyed their second Personal Best day with TMC. They worked through six stations focussed around different sports and they children enjoyed progressing through the stations and challenges!

Year 2 Plague Doctor

Year 2 had a visit from the Plague Doctor! We were comparing doctors today with doctors from the past.

Year 2 Shape

This half term we have been learning about The Great Fire of London. We recreated models of the houses, thinking carefully about the 2-D  and 3-D shapes.

We practised in PDR by making 3-D shapes using bamboo canes!

School Games - Basketball league Week 4

Today was the last day of the schools' basketball league.

During weeks 1,2 and 3 team 'A' performed very well in their league games. They didn't concede a single goal and scored over 40 points in just 4 games! However, in a very difficult match in the quarter finals Oakwood came up against Orchard House whose main goal shooter was in top form. Oakwood eventually loosing 10-2.

The 'B' team had a mixed set of games in their league, so didn't qualify for main competition - dropping into the 'Plate' competition. They did go on to win their quarter final 4-2 and quickly found themselves back on court in their semi-final. They ran out of steam in towards the end of their semi-final match eventually being beaten 6-2. This did mean that they would compete in the 3rd/4th place playoff match which they won by default as opponents Ludlow withdrew.

Well done to all the players who represented team Oakwood.

School Games - Indoor Athletics Grand Final - The results

The results are in!!!!

Team Oakwood are City Champions!

The boys team amassed 70 points and finished as boys winners, and the girls finished with a mighty 77 points which was enough for 2nd place. However, overall Team Oakwood topped the table by 6 points: Springhill finishing 2nd and Bitterne 3rd.

Well done to all the team!

School Games - Indoor Athletics Grand Final

For the last few weeks, 12 of our best athletes have been representing Oakwood at an indoor athletics competition. After the competition weeks, where the top 6 teams qualified for the Grand Final, Oakwood were ranked as the No. 1 team and the team to beat in the race for gold.

The Grand Final took place at Woodlands Community School on Tuesday and saw Oakwood go head to head with: Springhill, Bassett Green, Bitterne CE, Townhill and Valentine.

The team performed very well and it looked like they had done well! We will however have to wait until the end of the week when all the scores will be collated and the winners declared - so fingers crossed!

The Christmasaurus

Year 4 have had a wonderful past few days learning all about Tom Flecther's new novel 'The Christmasaurus'. Today we watched the live Puffin broadcast with Tom himself and we all took part too! We have also written our own poem based on the book.
