Y4 Roman Day

On Friday Year 4 had a busy day exploring more about Romans. We started the day off by learning about the Roman invasion. We spent the morning designing shields, cooking up a Roman feasts and designing menus for Oakwood's very own Roman Restaurant. After lunch we ate the food (lying down as the Romans did) we had spent the morning preparing. We even had our very own taste tester, just like Roman Emperors often did, in the form of Mr Taylor who checked our food hadn't been poisoned! Once we had feasted, we then went outside to practice some Roman marching drills using our shields to protect us. What a busy day in the life of a Roman!

Year 5 visit SeaCity Museum AND the Southampton Boat Show... in one day!

Wow! What a busy day we had yesterday in Year 5! We managed to squeeze in a trip to the fantastic SeaCity Museum, where we learned more about our current topic: the Titanic and had a great time also visiting the Southampton Boat Show. The children were superstars made all of us very proud. Have a look at some of the photos from our great day!

Wacky Races in Y6

Year six children got their year off to a flying start last week (well, most of them - some just went in circles!) during their Wacky Races Science and DT project.

Groups were tasked with designing and building a racer to compete in the end of week 'Wacky Race'. Well done to all the children whose cars made it off the start line under their own speed but congratulations to our winning cars!

A day in the life of a Y4 Celt

Today Year 4 have got into role as Celts. We spent the morning in role as the Celts and found out lots of fascinating facts about their lives in the process! We woke up in our round houses, which we shared with several families before washing ourselves using soap in the river. Once we had got ourselves dressed in our woven fabrics we spent the day grinding grains to make flour; hunting and building fires. After a busy day we learnt all about the religion of the day- including sacrifices!

Casting off our Titanic topic!

Year 5 have had an action packed day with their Titanic hook day. They started by writing boat related poetry and performing it in an entertaining way to their peers. They then were set the challenge of designing a boat that would float and hold weight. They then put them to the test by putting them on the water. Finally we finished the day with some boat art work.
